Len DiGrande, founder and CEO, began his career as a door-to-door salesman at King Fence & Supply Co. in Detroit. He quickly developed a passion for the trades and for building relationships with clients. His childhood best friend, Marc Rudorf, joined the King Fence team in 1986 as a laborer and installer, mastering the craft from the ground up.
When King Fence's owner passed away, 27-year-old Len, Marc, and coworker Gary Oliver set out on their own. American Fence & Supply Co., Inc. opened its doors in March of 1992. Len led sales, Marc mastered estimating, and Gary ran field operations. The company found success quickly, serving both residential and commercial clients across Southeast Michigan.
High demand for complex metalwork pushed the company beyond traditional fencing. Clients across municipal, hospital, institutional, educational, industrial, and commercial sectors were requesting fabrications far beyond gates and fences. The team began advertising its custom metal fabrication expertise under the name American Iron Works, and the project scope kept growing.
American Fence narrowed its services to primarily commercial and industrial projects. The volume and complexity of fabrication work demanded a dedicated team, purpose-built processes, and a level of project management that matched the expectations of the largest general contractors and developers in the region.
Demand for high-quality custom metal fabrication reached a point where it warranted its own brand, its own team, and its own identity. Metal City Fab launched as American Fence's first subsidiary, dedicated entirely to custom metal fabrication for commercial and architectural construction. Within its first years, MCF became one of the region's most trusted fabricators, serving hundreds of clients including some of the largest and most recognized names in construction, development, hospitality, and higher education.
Metal City Fab operates as a full design-build metal fabrication company with in-house engineering, estimating, project management, fabrication, finishing, and field installation. With four proprietary product lines and a portfolio spanning railings, structures, gates, stairs, signage, artwork, and industrial fabrications, MCF serves clients across multiple states and industries.

BrassWe also fabricate with bronze, copper, wrought iron, and cor-ten steel. Infill options include cable (horizontal and vertical), glass (clear, frosted, tinted), perforated metal panels, mesh, and custom laser-cut decorative panels. We combine materials and infill types within a single system to achieve any design intent.
